Who We Are
About Pembina Valley Humane Society
We are a non-profit, primarily volunteer-run animal shelter committed to protecting and improving the lives of companion animals and placing them in new, safe, and caring homes. Here’s how we do it:
Adoption
Adopting from an animal shelter is a responsible way to add a new member to your family and give a second chance to an animal in need. By adopting from a shelter, you’re making space for another animal in need and helping to give them the opportunity to become beloved pets.
Animal Intake
Choosing to surrender an animal can often be a difficult decision. If someone is unable to care for their cat or dog any longer, surrendering them to the PVHS is a responsible choice; the animal will receive care and be safe while waiting for their new home. The PVHS is a no-judgement zone.
Fostering
Fostering provides a safe and healthy environment for animals who need to grow, heal, or get some extra TLC while waiting for their new home. Caring for a foster cat or dog also helps the PVHS see the animal at their best…the shelter can be stressful on animals and seeing them in a home increases their chances of getting adopted!
Community Outreach
The PVHS helps animals, but also the community we serve. We aim to understand problems from the community’s perspective, which can help create solutions. The goal is to develop relationships within the community in order to motivate them to get involved or help advocate for the humane treatment of companion animals.
Education
The PVHS is here to serve the community by teaching the next generations about animals and how they deserve to be treated with kindness through in-class programs hosted by schools. We also work to educate the community on pet-care essentials such as the importance of spaying or neutering an animal and humane animal treatment.

We have a variety of wonderful cats and dogs currently in our care who would love to come home with you! All have been spayed or neutered, and all will be up-to-date with vaccines and boosters, all of which is included in their adoption fee!

At the PVHS, we work hard to provide a safe and healthy space for animals in need. However, we can’t do it alone! Please consider helping us continue our mission of promoting humane and compassionate animal care by donating, volunteering, attending an event, or even helping spread the word of the animals in our care. Serving the Pembina Valley and Beyond for Over 20 Years
From our early days of saving animals from euthanasia in the Pembina Valley by fostering at–risk animals in the homes of our founders to today, humane and compassionate animal treatment has been the heart that keeps the Pembina Valley Humane Society going. We dream of a day where animal shelters aren’t needed in our communities; until then, we will continue to advocate for cats and dogs, educate the community, and work tirelessly to be a safe haven for unwanted, abandoned, and stray animals.
